Wong will highlight the need for greater openness in China’s military advancements, particularly as Beijing continues to enhance its military capabilities and nuclear arsenal. These comments come on the heels of another incident in the South China Sea, where the Philippines accused the China Coast Guard of using force against one of its sailors. Aside from regional security issues, Wong is also set to address the potential risks associated with disruptions to shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz. She will warn that any instability in this critical waterway could severely impact energy supplies, trade, and food security within the Indo-Pacific, a region heavily reliant on smooth maritime trade for essential goods, fuel, and fertilizers.
