As Chinese President Xi Jinping commenced his visit to Cairo, he emphasized the importance of fostering closer ties and broadening cooperation with Egypt, underscoring the historical bond between the two nations. This visit coincides with the commemoration of 70 years of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt, marking a significant milestone in their partnership. Upon arrival, Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were warmly received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his wife, highlighting the cordial relations between the two countries.
In a message released prior to his trip, President Xi expressed that despite various shifts in the global environment, China and Egypt have maintained a robust relationship. He urged for intensified efforts to enhance the China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership, focusing on discovering new avenues for collaboration. Xi highlighted the parallel national development goals both countries are pursuing, suggesting a harmonization of their development strategies. He advocated for increased cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, particularly targeting practical projects that promise sustainable economic returns.
President Xi proposed expanding collaboration in various sectors such as education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, and archaeology. He believed that these increased exchanges would foster better mutual understanding and strengthen the bonds between the people of China and Egypt. Emphasizing mutual support, Xi noted that both nations should continue backing each other on pivotal issues to safeguard their shared interests. He also recognized Egypt as a vital partner in enhancing cooperation between China and Arab countries, as well as with Africa.
Both China and Egypt, Xi stated, have significant roles within the Global South. He called for more synchronized efforts on international matters, advocating for bolstered support for multilateral cooperation, and a joint commitment to promoting global peace and stability. The visit is anticipated to reinforce political and economic ties between Beijing and Cairo, paving the way for new opportunities in trade, infrastructure, and technology sectors.
