Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is set to significantly boost its semiconductor production capabilities in the United States with an additional investment of US$100 billion in its Arizona facilities. This brings TSMC’s total planned investment in the U.S. to a staggering US$265 billion. This decision comes on the heels of an impressive financial performance, as the company recently reported record-breaking quarterly net profits and revenue.

TSMC’s financial results for the April to June period showed a remarkable net profit of NT$706.6 billion (approximately US$22 billion), marking a 77.4% increase compared to the same quarter last year. During this period, the company’s revenue also saw substantial growth, rising by 36% to reach NT$1.3 trillion. This surge is largely attributed to the heightened global demand for artificial intelligence (AI) chips, which are integral to data center operations and advanced computing technologies.

The ambitious expansion in Arizona is focused on constructing advanced semiconductor manufacturing plants that will produce cutting-edge 2-nanometer and smaller chips. In addition to these facilities, TSMC plans to establish advanced packaging operations to further bolster its production capabilities. This expansion is part of the company’s broader strategy to meet the escalating demand from its customers worldwide.

Looking ahead, TSMC is optimistic about its growth prospects, forecasting that its revenue for the full year of 2026 will increase by more than 40% in U.S. dollar terms. In line with these growth expectations, the company has adjusted its capital expenditure plans for 2026, projecting to spend between US$60 billion and US$64 billion to ensure its production capacity aligns with customer needs.
