Taiwan’s Office in Papua New Guinea Stays Open Amid Closure Order

by admin477351

Taiwan’s representative office in Papua New Guinea is continuing its operations despite a closure order from the Papua New Guinea government, according to Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry. The office, led by Taiwanese representative Chiu Chen-yu, maintains normal functions and regular communication with Papua New Guinea’s Department of Foreign Affairs, with no significant disruptions reported.

The closure order was announced by Papua New Guinea’s Foreign Minister, Justin Tkatchenko, in July. However, Taiwan claims it was not consulted prior to this decision and has formally protested the move. In response, Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry is actively preparing for various possible developments and is seeking to initiate dialogue with Papua New Guinea to resolve the issue.

Taiwan is also aiming to garner support from other nations to encourage discussions that could help keep the representative office open. The situation underscores the ongoing diplomatic challenges Taiwan faces as it seeks to maintain a presence in international affairs despite pressures and challenges.

While the representative office in Papua New Guinea continues to function as usual, the outcome of the diplomatic efforts remains uncertain. Taiwan’s government is committed to finding a resolution that allows the office to maintain its operations and continue serving its diplomatic functions in the region.
