During a significant diplomatic visit, Taiwanese Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and Belizean Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca signed two agreements to enhance the longstanding partnership between Taiwan and Belize. The accords were finalized during Lin’s three-day visit to Belize, signaling a commitment to deepening cooperation in various sectors.

One of the key agreements involves a letter of intent between the University of Belize and Taiwan’s International Cooperation and Development Fund to establish the Taiwan-Caribbean Academy. This academy aims to bolster technical and vocational education, sustainable tourism, and economic cooperation among Taiwan’s diplomatic partners in the Caribbean region. The University of Belize will host the academy, with curriculum development and faculty planning supported by Taiwanese universities.

The second agreement focuses on diplomatic staff training, which is intended to enhance the professional skills and capabilities of Belize’s foreign service personnel. This initiative underscores the importance both countries place on strengthening their diplomatic ties and improving the effectiveness of their foreign service operations.

The discussions and subsequent agreements highlight a mutual interest in expanding bilateral cooperation and fostering stronger regional partnerships. By investing in education and professional training, Taiwan and Belize are working towards not only reinforcing their partnership but also contributing to the broader development goals of the region.
