Amidst a backdrop of global economic uncertainty, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has made a renewed call for enhanced cooperation with Germany, emphasizing the importance of multilateralism and free trade. This initiative comes as countries worldwide navigate complex economic challenges, fostering a need for stronger bilateral and strategic partnerships.

In a phone discussion on Monday with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, Wang underscored the mutual benefits of closer economic ties and strategic collaboration between China and Germany. He advocated for increased communication and trust, highlighting the potential for deeper practical cooperation. Wang also urged Germany to uphold the one-China principle, a stance that Beijing considers critical for maintaining stability across the Taiwan Strait.

During the conversation, both ministers acknowledged the positive momentum in their nations’ relations. Wadephul expressed Germany’s commitment to fostering stronger high-level exchanges and advancing trade and economic cooperation with China. He reiterated Germany’s adherence to the one-China policy, aligning with Wang’s call for stability and dialogue.

The dialogue between the two ministers also touched on pressing international issues, including the situations in Iran and Ukraine. Wang reiterated China’s commitment to peace efforts and emphasized the importance of continued communication with Germany and the broader European Union. He suggested that economic and trade differences between China and the EU should be resolved through dialogue rather than confrontation, stressing the value of cooperative diplomacy in addressing international challenges.
